Grade 7, as told by Jodi Jahnke
Last modified: Monday, March 11, 2002 6:50:52 AM

One day back in the days a little 12 year old girl walked into a busy inqurying gym. It was Berczy, again. For the last 7 years this same little girl has attended this school meeting new people everyday as time went by.
However as Jodi walked through that door you could see not so much as a bitter fire in her eye. This year was going to be horrible. It was grade 7, and gifted students from other schools were going to ruin the means of a true Berczy “screw it up” if you will. The only thing she could pray for was that she would be in the new teacher’s class, Ms.Kervin.
There were two other grade 7 gifted teachers other than Ms. Kervin. There was Mr. Delios and Mrs. Targonsky. Mrs Targonsky was like the ice on a cold day, or that extra needle in your back when you have a spine injury. She had tought at Berczy for quite a while now so Jodi basically knew what kind of a person she was. Mr.Delios was relitively new to Berczy, this year would be his second year teaching at Berczy. However Jodi didn’t particularly like him. He tough her grade 6 Health and Art and well he was the kind of a teacher you could really take for granted, and also slightly dull.
Loathing the decision of who’s class she would be in the walked ever so slowly to Mr.Delios’s attendance folder. Scanning though the list she paused in horror. Not only had she been in Mr.Delios’s class, she was in a class where she only knew 3 people! There names were Kevin Corbett, Dennis Wong and Vicky Au. This year was going to be horrible, the worst year ever to walk into her life. Just as she got lost in a nightmare of “Will Berczy ever be the same?” and “They ruined everything” she heard a man’s voice say,
“Class follow me. We’re going to portable 9.”
That voiced echoed in her head until she reached the classroom.
Not sure who to sit with Jodi sat near the front but to the side beside Vicky. Realizing that Vicky would probably with her for a while Jodi slumped back into her chair.
“Hello?” a voice called from the wooden door, “this girl is suppose to be in your class.”
Great Jodi thought more new girls.
“JODI!” Elaine Cheung, one of her best friends called out to her.
Jodi looked behind her and saw Elaine, suddenly she didn;’t feel all that bad. Elaine quickly sat in a seat across from Jodi. Just then another person walked into the classrom, his name was Ronald Lo. He didn’t particualry fit with any of the newies so Mr. Delios told him to sit at Elaine, Jodi and Vicky’s table. This was her class, she was stuck with a bunch of nerds from Crosby and other reject schools. Who would she like? She was over her grade 4, 5 and 6 crush Dennis and was lost. Looking around the room a young boy who was relitively cute caught her eye, Graeme Halliday, okay she though, she would like him.
As everyone was talking excitingly about their new school Elaine and Jodi got up to go outside for recess just as the bell rang. They walked to the fron of the east door and saw a lone girl leaning beside a portable, by herself. Elaine and Jodi have a history of taking loner people in just because it drives them insane to watch them be such a loser. This new girl glanced up and then quickly glanced back down at the concrete.
“Elaine, yo, are you listeing to me?” Elaine glaced at Jodi.
“What?”
“Lets go meet that girl beside the portable.”
“What?”
“Well are you coming?”
What? OH wait! NO! Do we HAVE to?!?”
“Come on Elainey, lets go.:”
Jodi dragged Elaine to meet the new girl, she turned out to be nice or at least that what they got the impression of then. Her name was Mona Ahmad.
After recess and the other remaining periods of the morning were over Jodi and Elaine we’re eating lunch. Mona timidly tiptoed to their table and asked if she could sit with them. They said yes and soon enough they were talking.
Elaine said something funny just as Mona sat down and low and behold Jodi’s soup flew out of her mouth and landed on Mona. What a first impression, but who was to make a judment?
For the longest while the three did everything together, projects, making fun of Elaine, eating lunch outside laughing about just anything from Beans to Ripping and they were happy as ever.
However Jodi came down with a cold and didn’t show up to school for two days. The story goes usually Mona and Elaine followed Jodi around at recesses because they had nothing better to do. When Jodi wasn’t there they didn’t know what else to do but join the Crosby Kids in their gay yet funny escapades of “OHHH MIMI LIKES RYAN KEMPER!” and truth or dare.
When Jodi got back to school it all just took off from there, eventually the groups became one and their class was just a huge group of friends, more or less. There still were exceptions like the hot tempered Chris Kam, paranoid Justin Han and well there were others, but never-the-less majority belonged this this hugh group of Delios students.
There was gossip, grade 7 gossip. Stuff like Andrew sending Yinny (Yin-xia’s nickname) songs because he liked her except she liked Ryan, Mimi still liking Ryan after he ditched her for Yinny because he thought Yinny wasn’t shy and Jodi still liking Graeme. It wasn’t much but it got them throught to Christmas with something to talk about.
Around Christmas time William Berczy had a Christmas dance. Everything was going nicely and all and they were still the occasional people running around the gym trying to set people up for dances. Jodi never usually danced with boys during slow songs, there was no point, besides who would she dance with?
People danced, songs played and finally when a slow song came on a boy who was also in Mr. Delios’s class came over and tapped Jodi on the shoulder.
“Jodi? Uhh, do you wanna dance with me?” said a little Andrew Mok.
Jodi didn’t’ know much about this Andrew Mok character but all she knew was that he liked Yin-xia and that someone must have asked him to ask her.
“Who asked you?” Jodi said with a grin.
Just then they both looked to the right and low and behold, there was a smiling Mimi Shao running away.
“oh, well okay I guess” and they started dancing.
When the dance ended they went their sepreate ways and all was well. More songs played, more people danced, that’s how it always went.
At around 4:55 the djs annouced the last dance was going to be played. Jodi looked dumbfounded for a second when she heard the familiar voice of David Maclean in her ear. He asked her to dance but because she didn’t particularly think too much of David she thought quick and pushed him into another girl. Once they started dancing Jodi realized she looked like an idiot standing in the middle of the dance floor not dancing. Just as she was turning around to go to the door she saw Andrew Mok again. They started talking and then he realized the same thing Jodi has realized earlier, both of them were now standing in the middle of a dance floor not dancing, looking quite stupid.
“Well,” said Andrew “Since it’s both of our losses that we look stupid standing here not doing anything, would you like to dance?”
“Sure, I don’t see why not?” Jodi says with a grin.
During their dance however a number of things happened. First, she spotted Graeme walk around the dance floor with no one to dance with. She liked him at the time so she wanted to dance with Graeme instead of this Andrew character but she pushed the thought away and kept on dancing. The next thing to happen was they started moving closer to eachother. Closer, and closer but no one mentioned anything about it, alrthough they both knew it.
“Ahh my mom!” Andrew flailed to put Jodi infront of him so his mom wouldn’t see him.
Wow, what a stupid move, they had been dancing right by the gym doors. But the song ended and they both went there separate ways, or so they thought.

LOL. boo yea. Hillarious times.
